Well, I’ve pissed off the Facebook design team, now it’s time to piss of David and Marco (although I really hope I don’t). I’m going to come out and say it: I really, really dislike the new Tumblr beta. It feels clunky and awkward, and I think it’s a huge step backwards in exchange for a few small usability improvements (wider dashboard, larger type, easy tumblog switching). Of course, I have no idea how far along it is, and I’m sure it’s a work in progress, but I got bored this weekend and decided that instead of posting some whiny diatribe about why I didn’t like it, I could mockup what I think it should look like. It’s still pretty rough and undeveloped - I’d by no means present this as a finished product - but I thought I’d share it nonetheless. Click the image above (or here) to view my mockup. I’ve also posted a side-by-side comparison on Flickr.

WEARABLE MAGAZINE
Visionaire has teamed with Lacoste for its fall issue, in what can best be described as a “wearable publication.” Instead of just publishing a magazine, Visionaire has produced photographically printed Lacoste polo shirts with artwork from Nick Knight, Peter Lindbergh, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Karl Lagerfeld, filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar musicians David Byrne and Michael Stipe, and painter Richard Phillips. Each issue, which costs $250, will include three polo shirts from the collection (in small, medium and large) and all 12 images from the contributors, contained in a shiny large, white box that looks more like a suitcase.
